‘s journalist Sara Rigatelli, 43, is excited. The move ahead in the summer is to move to the Philippine capital, Manila, where he will start as ’s journalist in early August. Rigatelli’s operations cover the whole of Southeast Asia.
– I am really happy to be able to tell stories and news to Finns in that direction as well. Southeast Asia has been in the dark about the news in recent years due to, among other things, interest rate restrictions.
Rigatelli has done almost his entire career at in various deliveries.
For the past year and a half, he has been a journalist in ‘s overseas delivery. Prior to that, he worked in Studio A for seven years.
Rigatelli strives to find in-depth perspectives on news topics. He wants to explain complex things as simply as possible.
– I am ambitious. I hope to produce stuff that increases Finns ’understanding of things they didn’t know. Indeed, many phenomena are global.
Lots to do
Rigatelli says that in Southeast Asia, there is a lot to do on the news. For example, the effects of the war in Ukraine are interesting.
Indonesia has already seen protests over rising food prices. Indonesia and the Philippines have previously imported a lot of wheat from Ukraine.
– At the same time, population growth is rapid and inflation is having a rapid impact, especially in countries with poor people.
Another topic of interest to Rigatelli is the Filipino workforce, which is used all over the world, including Finland.
– A lot of labor comes to Finland from the Philippines. This needs to be addressed there.
It has also happened on the political front in the Philippines. In May, a former dictator was elected president of the island nation Ferdinand Marcosin son Ferdinand Marcos junior.
– It is really interesting whether Marcos junior will start washing his family’s history.
Rigatelli believes the supplier’s work will be able to be done in the area normally once the corona restrictions are released. On the other hand, not all countries in Southeast Asia have completely free media.
– With the coming to power of Marcos junior, it will be exciting to see if there will be any blackmail in the media. Myanmar, for example, is a separate issue when there has been an military coup.
Rigatelli will be sharing content from his daily life in the Philippines on Instagram from the fall @rigatellisara.
