“I want to do something really good”

Linn Svahn made a big impression last season.
Now the Swede will be even better this coming winter.
Thanks to a big change that will make Svahn the best in the world.

All Swedes interested in skiing know by now what Lynn Svahn have had to go through. She broke through as a super talent and was singled out as the big favorite for the WC gold in the sprint in 2021.

Svahn’s great success

Then the unthinkable happened and Svahn unfortunately injured himself after a fall just a couple of weeks before the World Ski Championships. And it would be over two years before she could return to her full potential again.

The article continues below.

Because on December 30, 2023, Linn finally managed to win a World Cup race again after over 1,000 days of waiting. After that, she became almost unstoppable, winning a total of five individual World Cup races this past season, taking home the Sprint Cup and finishing second in the overall World Cup standings.

Linn’s change

Next winter, the 24-year-old will be even better and, for once, win his very first WC medal. During the pre-season, Linn Svahn tested training days with a double threshold, a very successful training method in middle and long-distance runners.
– We have had a system around the days with double thresholds, and it is absolutely something that we will continue with. It’s something that I feel like I respond well to, and it’s been fun to test, says Linn to langd.se.
– We have been careful with the intensity and had a clear plan with the training days before and after. Now I have so many years of training behind me, and then small adjustments can have a good effect.

Last week, Svahn and the Swedish national ski team were in Trondheim to train and compete on the WC tracks. Also an important detail to arrive as well prepared as possible for the 2025 World Ski Championships.
– It was fun to test on the WC track in such a context. Then I see the competition mostly as a bonus. During this part of the year, it’s more about becoming familiar with the place where we will be competing and getting an experience of the WC terrain, she says in the interview.

The coming season will be extremely important for Linn Svahn, who has finally fought her way back to the absolute top of the world. Now she reveals her goal for the winter.
– Championships are championships, and that’s where we try to have the best days of the whole year. But it is important to be careful with the work that must be done here and now. I don’t want to be too detailed too soon and already start focusing on those days in February and March. Rather, it’s about doing the daily job and getting a durable body that can train a lot and that responds well to training. Then when it starts to get closer, it’s more about filing the details that allow me to go fast on the specific track, says Svahn and admits another change in his training plan.
– We have chosen to make a slightly clearer niche towards sprints and the short distances. This is to get a little more development there, and that’s where we see that I have the best chance of doing something really good.
