“I unfortunately had to experience these grips…”: our readers react to our dossier on esotericism

I unfortunately had to experience these grips our readers react

The disturbing rise of esotericism

Alain Vivien, former minister, former deputy, former president of the interministerial mission for the fight against sects

Congratulations to the L’Express team for the rich and almost exhaustive file on esoteric excesses. Informed of the legal risks in progress since the vote of the About-Picard law, the proselytes of these movements avoid the most flagrant abuses, but exploit as soon as they can the loopholes of the legislation, taking advantage of the collapse of the great ideologies that once structured society. This issue undoubtedly participates in opening the eyes of readers, with seriousness and objectivity. (“The disturbing rise of esotericism“, L’Express of August 10).

Bravo for your audacity!

Katherine Simon, Fontenay-sous-Bois (Val-de-Marne)

I have just devoured your articles devoted to the New Age and the occult and wanted to warmly thank you for the boldness, accuracy and clarity of your remarks. Unfortunately, I had to experience these influences, both financial and psychological, before being able to understand them and get rid of them. It was my training as a historian and my faith that allowed me to take a step back and find lasting peace. I hope your articles will avoid this same tumultuous journey for your readers. (“In pursuit of an occult world“, L’Express of August 10).

Niger’s uncertain future

Dominique Meyer, Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine)

I have just read Eric Chol’s article on the generals’ putsch in Niger and I fully agree with what he wrote on this subject. It is a good thing that the African States are finally taking their affairs in hand, they who are always ready to criticize the colonialism of which they have been the object. But will it yield results? Mystery ! Because they practice corruption as a national sport, and have done so for decades, without taking care of the basic needs of their people. (“A quarter of mafia generals“, L’Express of August 10).

The real feminists

Judith Roy, Toulouse (Haute-Garonne)

Anne Rosencher rightly recalls the complicit silence of the so-called “feminist” movements after the barbaric attack committed against a young woman in Toulouse. But, in this case, what is now called “feminism” in North America and Europe is “neo-feminism”. But this is actually an anti-feminism, an identity and confusionist movement contributing to the decline of the status of women. The proof is that, because of their virulent anti-Semitism, certain “neo-feminist” celebrities come to support Hamas – which murders homosexuals and oppresses women. The only true feminists are those who, in Iran or in other Muslim countries, fight against oppression at the risk of their lives. (“A woman from Toulouse disfigured for her outfit: an attack that achieves its terror effect“, L’Express of July 27).

Alma’s favored tenants

Madeleine Gibon, Saumur (Maine-et-Loire)

The article “L’Alma, the mysterious address of the presidency” made me jump. I learned there that 62 dwellings housed certain collaborators of the Elysée. And some don’t even pay rent! When we know that it is almost impossible to find accommodation in Paris, we see that the court of the President of the Republic enjoys the same privileges than that of the 17th century! (“Alma, the mysterious address of the Presidency”L’Express of July 27).

Public debt: we no longer have a choice

Volker Koettgen, Marseilles (Bouches-du-Rhone)

You have published several articles on public spending. Of course, it is easier to give than to take away, but we no longer have a choice. The government must act quickly, show itself to be inflexible and above all efficient because, as André Maurois wrote, “the only problems without a solution are those that we do not want to solve”. (“Medication, sick leave… The government’s ways to save money in 2024″on Lexpress.fr).
