Ingemar Stenmark ran into Armand Duplantis in town.
Now the legend tells about the meeting.
– I can understand how those who feel “starstruck” feel, says Stenmark.
Ingemar Stenmark is undoubtedly one of Sweden’s foremost athletes of all time. When the Swede rode important races during his career, all of Sweden stopped to watch as the legend flew down the hill.
Great interest in pole vaulting
He took an unparalleled 86 World Cup victories as well as several Olympic and World Cup golds. As a child, however, Ingemar Stenmark also had a great passion for a completely different sport – namely pole vaulting.
Even as a twelve-year-old, Ingemar Stenmark managed to jump as high as 3.20 meters, something that impressed sports legend Sergej Bubka. But as everyone knows, it was instead skiing that Ingemar Stenmark chose to focus on.
But with his enormous passion for pole vaulting, meeting Armand Duplantis was of course a big deal for Ingemar Stenmark. And the legend now admits that he was a little “starstruck”.
“Has everything required”
– I don’t know if “starstruck” is the right word at my age. But after I met him, I can understand how those who feel starstruck feel, says Stenmark to Expressen.
He also pays tribute to “Mondo” properly.
– What he does is absolutely fantastic. He has everything required, both technique and range. He has started at a young age and is fast too, says the skiing king and continues:
– He is the perfect pole vaulter. He could jump 6.30 in time if he stays away from injuries.
