On Boxing Day 2018, Tobias Forsberg broke his neck during the match between Leksand and Almtuna.
Today, four years later, he dreams of children together with his wife Filippa and a move “home” to Leksand.
– Now that I’m getting older, I feel more and more that I want it, says Forsberg to Expressen.
It was during the second period of the Boxing Day 2018 match between Leksand and Almtuna that the accident happened. Tobias Forsberg crashed into the edge headfirst, and he immediately felt that something was not right. The forward had broken his neck, and was paralyzed from the armpits down.
“I said it was done”
Tobias Forsberg remembers the incident clearly.
– It felt like someone had pulled the plug out of my body. I couldn’t touch anything. I felt that immediately. I told my wife it was over, “I will never be able to play ice hockey again”. That’s the first thing I say. I don’t know why I said it, but I knew it. I realized then and there that I had broken my neck, but I had no idea what it meant, he tells Expressen.

Today, it has been just over four years since the accident, and Tobias Forsberg traveled around our long country during the autumn with the lecture “New Perspective”.
– It’s a new career I’ve started. I’ve been at it since October and it feels so damn fun. I’m growing every time and I really hope that those who listen will take in my journey. I’m talking about the new perspectives I’ve gained. You don’t have to break your neck to make a change in life, he says.

Future dreams
Tobias Forsberg and wife Philippa currently lives in Gustavsberg in Stockholm. But the future seems to be different for the couple, who both dream of children and of a move “home” to Leksand again.
– Now that I’m getting older and older, I feel it more, that I want to have children. 100 percent. Maybe a back pair, two heavy right backs, says Forsberg.

And if it becomes a reality, the children can grow up like toys.
– I think we will be 08s for a while to come, but at some point in our lives we will most likely move to Leksand. Filippa is currently studying and we are having a good time, but at some point we will go there again.
– Partly because we have a lot of friends, and partly because I miss the kind of small-town feeling you get in such a small village. You want to support shops, restaurants and it will be a smaller squirrel wheel. It’s not as gigantic as here. It will be a social piece that you don’t get in Gustavsberg, concludes Tobias Forsberg.
