“I think that risk exists”

Therese Johaug has hinted at a comeback.
But Gunde Svan believes there is something that can stop the Norwegian.
– It is difficult, he says to Sportbibeln.

It was in September as the skiing icon Therese Johaug, 35, opened up about making a comeback to cross-country skiing. The Norwegian could possibly set her sights on the home WC in 2025 in Trondheim, but in the interview with NRK, Johaug says that she has not decided yet.

Johaug’s career

The Norwegian retired from skiing at professional level in April 2022 after a brilliant career. Among other things, Johaug won three Olympic golds, 14 World Cup golds and 15 individual World Cup victories. In May, Therese had her first child together with her fiance, the former rower Nils Jakob Hoff.

If Johaug returns to skiing, the Swedish skiing legend believes Gunde Swan61, that it can be a success.
– It turns out that many girls – the Russians have shown it several times – that when they have given birth and come back, they are even stronger than before, he says to Sportbibeln.

Gunde’s thinking

However, Gunde believes that there is something that could make Johaug regret a comeback.
– I think there is a risk that she will experience that motherhood is quite fantastic.

The 61-year-old has two children himself, Julia and Ferrywhich he received after his skiing career.
– In any case, it’s the only thing I can compare, since I became a parent myself, with the successes. This boost that happens when the children start walking. If you’re going to miss all that – I think it’s hard to beat. And Johaug has experienced such terrible success with sports before, so I think it will be difficult when she gets into that role, says Gunde Svan.
