“I think it’s strange that the police couldn’t do more”

When the residents talk about what happened on and around Ramel väg, it’s a lot about why Salwan Mumika was given permission to burn the Koran in Malmö and why the police didn’t intervene when it was written early on Sunday that “there will be an after party at Rosengård”.

“Should have been here earlier”

– I think the police knew about it and if the police had been here before it all started, I don’t think it would have gone the way it did, says Hiba Monzer.

She is the mother of four children and temporarily lives with her parents in Rosengård.

– I lived here before I moved abroad and can see that it has gotten worse. It was nice here before, says Hiba Monzer.

Didn’t stop stone throwers

Minna Li is a student at Malmö University and she also lives in Rosengård.

– I saw the burning of the Koran live on Tick Tock and saw that there were a lot of calls for riots on social media, so I was prepared for something to happen, but not like this. It almost felt like you were in a war zone, she says.

Minna lives about 200 meters from Ramel’s road and felt the smoke from the cars that burned on Sunday.

“Scary with stone throwers”

– Should it be so that you can gather a hundred people and do what you want. I also think it’s scary with people throwing stones, but I think it’s very strange that the police can’t do anything about it.

Police area chief Petra Stenkula has previously told SVT that the police knew that there were reports of an after-party at Rosengård in connection with the burning of the Koran in Malmö.
