“I think it’s…”

Now the hunt for world number one Scottie Scheffler begins.
Ludvig Åberg is one of 30 golf stars who can take home the winner’s check of SEK 255 million in the PGA Tour’s final competition.
– I think it’s a cool format, says the 24-year-old from Eslöv.

The American Scottie Scheffler finds himself in the fact that his big lead in the season ranking (Fedex Cup) on the PGA Tour has now been converted into a lead of just two strokes to second Xander SchauffeleUnited States.

“It’s great”

Scheffler starts the final event at East Lake, in Atlanta, Georgia, ten strokes under par, but everyone in the 30-man field has a mathematical chance of winning the overall victory and the first prize of nearly SEK 255 million.

The format was introduced in 2019 and the American has directed criticism at the arrangement.
“At the moment, you can’t really call it a season-long battle when it all boils down to a hitting contest on the same golf course every year,” Scheffler said two weeks ago.

The Swedish world number four Ludvig Åberg is of a different opinion.
– It’s like any other sport in the US where you have a regular season and a playoff. I think it’s great, says Åberg ahead of the tour finale.

Louis the Fifth

Åberg finished fifth in the Fedex Cup rankings and thus starts the competition at -5, but the fact that he is behind four competitors already when he hits his first golf shot does not change the way he plays.
– It is still a golf tournament over 72 holes. You still have to play very good golf, aggressive golf, if you want to have a chance to win.

He made his professional debut in June last year and has experienced 15 crazy months with, among other things, two victories in Europe and the USA, debut in the Ryder Cup team, a second place in the major debut in the US Masters and Olympic games.
– When I look back, I think the highlight was the Ryder Cup. Being part of Europe’s team was amazing. It was cool and something I will never forget.

Tired of Åberg

After the tour finale in Atlanta, Åberg, who during the spring had problems with a knee, will be a little off. Then it may also be relevant to move.

Åberg has been living with his friend and tour colleague for a long time Vincent Norrman and his girlfriend Frida Kinhultwho is a professional on the LPGA tour, at their house in Florida.
– We look around a bit. I think that “Vinny” (Norrman), my landlord, is a bit tired of me, says Ludvig Åberg with a smile.

Åberg starts the first round at 19.38, Swedish time, on Thursday and plays along Rory McIlroyNorthern Ireland (–4).

PGA Tour Finals:

The top 30 in the Fedex Cup rankings get to play the PGA Tour’s final event Thursday through Sunday. The ranking is now used to give the top performers an edge over the others in the starting field.

Leader Scottie Scheffler, USA, is allowed to start at 10 strokes under par. Second place Xander Schauffele starts at -8, third Hideki Matsuyama, Japan, at -7, fourth Kegan Bradley, USA, at -6 and fifth Ludvig Åberg, Sweden, starts at -5.

Players ranked 6–10 start at -4 and so on. Players ranked 26–30 start on par. Through this arrangement, the winner of the tour final will also be the winner of the entire playoff.

The winner takes home a check for approximately 255 million kroner (25 million dollars). A second place gives 127 million kroner (12.5 million dollars) and a third place gives 76 million kroner (7.5 million dollars). Whoever finishes in 30th and last place receives SEK 5.6 million ($550,000).

Footnote: The Swedish sums are rounded to whole numbers. Exchange rate from August 28, where 1 dollar corresponds to approximately SEK 10.12.
