Cortyn confesses. Because the MeinMMO demon has enriched itself with you in World of Warcraft – and feels like a stock swindler.
You know that in World of Warcraft for sure. You just have a bit of “downtime” between visiting dungeons and completing world quests. You meet an acquaintance in Valdrakken and play the usual game: “Let’s just throw our toy box on the floor and spam all kinds of toys.”
We did exactly that a few days ago and noticed that the tents like “Dragonscale Expedition Tent” behaved somehow differently. Instead of just spawning “wild in the pampa” as before, the tents would appear right over our characters and even last a whopping 15 minutes.
Since we are both roleplayers, the implications of this were immediately clear to us: This opens up completely new possibilities in roleplaying and every RPer within a radius of 3 realms will lick their fingers to be able to set up their own tent anywhere.
This insight from my everyday gameplay in World of Warcraft then led to the article “Blizzard Stops Roleplaying – The Best Change to Patch 10.0.5” on MeinMMO.
The story could have ended here. But it wasn’t, because I know how “my RPers” tick and that inspired my greed for gold a bit.
Greedy Demon buys materials for 4,000 gold – sells tent for 57,000 gold
As luck would have it – or fate – my character is skilled at tailoring and was able to craft the finest of the three tents, the “Dragonscale Expedition Expedition Tent”.
Less than 10 minutes later I had bought the materials for 30 of the tents from the auction house and put the tents back in directly in return.
I could tell you that the raw material cost for a single tent was around 4,000 gold pieces at the time, but I better keep that to myself. Because otherwise the following pictures would trigger gasping in one or the other:
Felt like a pump and dump scam
I was able to sell all of the tents for between 25,000 and 60,000 gold. You know. The good old trick of: “Put some items in really expensive and others significantly cheaper so that the cheaper one looks like a good deal.”
The tents sold like sliced bread. I even had to “push in” another 20 tents before other tailors entered the market and the whole thing slowed down a bit.
I have to admit, I felt a little bit like those stock scammers who foment a lot of people into buying one stock at a time, sending the price skyrocketing, and then selling it.
Am I feeling bad? A little, but within limits. Because of course I spent most of the gold right away to buy myself some stupid toys for too much gold that I’ll probably use exactly three times in the next few years and then forget about them again.
Also, I’m pretty sure that roleplayers will take advantage of the tents and use them very, very often for years to come.
In this sense: Thanks to the players of the Aldor. Thanks for your gold, have fun with the tents. And I hope you all have nice RP experiences with it while I treat myself to a weekend of umbrella drinks in Valdrakken’s most expensive bar.
