The Swedish women’s biathlon team is the reigning Olympic champion.
The competition is therefore fierce among our blue and yellow skaters.
And it could be devastating for Stina Nilsson, who risks being poked.
At the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, Sweden’s women’s national biathlon team showed the incredible capacity it possesses. For the first time ever, the women won Olympic gold in the relay thanks to impressive efforts by Hanna Öberg, Elvira Öberg, Lynn Persson and Mona Brorsson.
Stina Nilsson’s words
Now another season awaits and the expectations for the blue-and-yellow biathlon ladies are quite rightly high. The Öberg sisters enter the World Cup as two of the favorites to win the overall victory. Behind there, the competition among Swedish skiers is also fierce.

In the World Cup, Sweden can field six female skaters, but there are now eight names fighting for the coveted starting spots. Stina Nilsson is one of them and now enters his third season as a biathlete with hopes of taking further steps to reach the top of the world.
– I really want to go to the World Cup, says the 29-year-old to SVT Sport.
– I think the best girls should go and it certainly feels like I’m showing that my highest level is very good.

The national team’s message
The fierce competition could mean that Nilsson is kicked out of the national team’s squad for the World Cup. According to the national team captain John Luke there are only three skaters who have secured their places in the World Cup and if you have to guess, it is probably the sisters Öberg and Linn Persson.
– It is very even, so there will be difficult selections, says Lukas to the TV channel.

Therefore, it is important for Stina Nilsson to perform right from the start this weekend when the Swedish premiere in Idre takes place. The competition there could be decisive for whether she gets the chance in the World Cup or not.
– We will not change riders just so that everyone gets a chance, but when we feel that someone else is better then we are also prepared to change. We are doing as we have done in previous years that we are clearly looking for performance, Johannes Lukas admits in the interview.
