Cash for Rares is one of the most popular shows on ZDF. No wonder that cult presenter Horst Lichter earns an incredible fortune for this. The junk show has been running on TV since 2013 and always provides moments of surprise. Normally the mood at the show is cheerful and exuberant, but even the professionals have bad days: Things suddenly get really heated in the dealer room – because two dealers are fighting for the same object.
Rare military treasure at Cash for Rares: expert amazed
When married couple Renate and Stefan Wahl from Erkrath show up at Bares for Rares, they have no idea that their strange object will soon cause a heated bidding war.
Expert Deltev Kümmel explains what is so special about the pieces they brought with them: Because they are so-called epaulettes; the artfully crafted shoulder boards were placed on uniforms and belonged to an important state official. The expert believes that a “very high animal” must have worn the decoration.
In addition, the badges are ancient. “Between 1886 to 1918”is Kümmel’s assessment. What’s particularly great is that the original packaging is still intact, which is an absolute rarity. The expert appreciates the rarity “at least 400 euros”. Perfect conditions for the couple to get a good deal in the dealer room.

Beef with Cash for Rares: The sparks are flying in this bidding war
The epaulettes are really well received in the dealer room. Dealer Fabian Kahl is on fire. “They’re in wonderful condition”he enthuses. But unfortunately there is a competitor: dealer Wolfgang Pauritsch also wants to get his hands on the rarity. He praises the excellent “Handmade”. And it doesn’t take long until a heated dealer dispute breaks out between the two. In just a few seconds the bids skyrocket and after a short time the expert estimate of 400 euros is exceeded.
Fabian Kahl and Wolfgang Paurtisch really want the object and are therefore engaged in a duel that could easily come from the Wild West. As soon as one person makes an offer, the competitor beats him by another 50 euros. At the 800 euro mark things get really exciting: Wolfgang can almost close the deal when Fabian loudly “NO!” calls. The bidding war immediately continues.
But when Fabian Kahl then offered 1,000 euros, it was over for Wolfang Pauritsch. Visibly annoyed, he waves away and lets his competitor win. Nevertheless, he vents his anger: “I really can’t stand him, but it doesn’t matter. I’ll stop now.” The couple is beside themselves with happiness, except for the disappointed dealer.
