“I promised myself that…”

Sven-Göran Eriksson has meant a lot to Italian football.
And above all Alessandro Nesta, who breaks down in tears after the dear reunion.
– I promised myself not to start crying…, he says in an SVT documentary.

Earlier this year came the terrible news that Sven-Göran Eriksson is dying of cancer. The Swedish coaching icon has, according to himself, only months left to live.

Swedes in Italy

In recent months, the entire football world has shown its great love and gratitude to “Svennis”. The 76-year-old has traveled around Europe, visited all his old clubs and received great cheers from the people.

Eriksson has above all left a big mark in Italy, where he reaped great success with, among others, Sampdoria and Lazio. “Mister”, as he is still called by the Italians, has trained great players such as Roberto Mancini, Sinisa Mihajlovic, Clarence Seedorf and Alessandro Nesta Over the years.

Nesta in tears

In the newly released SVT documentary “Svennis: Arrivederci Italien”, we get to follow cancer patient Eriksson who returns to Italy to say goodbye. There he is reunited with his old adepts and it gets really emotional.
– I want to give “Mister Eriksson” a big hug of gratitude for everything he has meant to me, to my career, but also life in general, says Seedorf in the TV program.
– Wisdom and elegance are probably the most distinctive things about him.

The legend Alessandro Nestawho Svennis names as the world’s best back, breaks down in tears when he has to tell what the Swede meant to him.
– Wait a minute… I’m so emotional now. I promised myself not to start crying, but this is how it turned out…, says the big back to SVT.
– What “Mister” has taught me is to treat people well. As a youngster I was quite hot. He treated me well and then I always gave my best. I think you have to do that to bring out the best in people.
