I hope everyone understands the seriousness of the situation

Sweden raised its terrorism threat assessment earlier this month. The background is, for example, the anger caused by the desecration of the Koran in Muslim countries in Sweden.

Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson commented on the weakened security situation in his country at a press conference after the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

The government wants to inform all parties about the country’s security situation.

– I hope everyone understands the seriousness of the situation and acts in Sweden’s interest, he said.

The Prime Minister says that the government works in cooperation with other authorities to protect citizens both at home and abroad and also cooperates with foreign countries.

The government has started an investigation into how the Public Order Act should be amended in order to safeguard public safety. However, he stresses that there is no intention to change the constitution guaranteeing freedom of speech.

Denmark has made a different assessment of the situation and has decided to ban, for example, the burning of the Koran.

Sweden is currently facing an increased threat of a terrorist attack, the background of which is, for example, the desecration of the Koran, which has aroused widespread anger in Muslim countries.

– This is the most serious security threat since the Second World War, says Kristersson.

The authorities have prevented planned actions against Sweden, Kristersson said, but did not say more concretely about these actions.

Kristersson confirms that one of the recently revealed threats is directed at the person who burned the Koran and the police. However, he does not elaborate on this threat Swedish radio SR has previously reported.

According to SR, an entity linked to the terrorist organization al-Qaeda is behind the threat.

Koran protests in Sweden have been particularly actively organized by an Iraqi Christian who arrived in the country as an asylum seeker Salwan Momika.

In Sweden, the threat of terrorism is assessed on a five-point scale. Currently, the threat assessment is at level four. This threat level means that the security police Säpo considers that there is a concrete threat of a terrorist attack in Sweden.
