Anders “The Angry Carpenter” Öfvergård was arrested – suspected of having stolen meat at Ica

It was just a few days before midsummer – on June 21 to be precise – as the popular presenter Anders “The Angry Carpenter” Öfvergård55, was arrested at Ica Maxi Värmdö.

A security guard, who on the day in question was a plainclothes shop inspector, had noticed that Anders Öfvergård had not blip three pieces of meat – two sirloin steaks and a steak.

A mistake, says Öfvergård. But both the watchman and the shop owner thought otherwise.

The store owner believes that Öfvergård has been stealing from him for 10 years, and in questioning with the police, the guard said that the ICA manager had said that he would go home and celebrate Anders Öfvergård’s arrest with champagne.

This as Öfvergård, according to the ICA manager, has been a “work environment problem” for the employees. At an earlier reconciliation, Öfvergård is said to have “dropped the bags and ran”.

– They had noticed him before. The Ica trader said he was going home and celebrating with champagne because it was finally over. This is precisely because he had been so aggressive, rude and unpleasant when confronted that they were not allowed to intervene against him anymore because of the work environment. That’s how I understood it, said the guard in the interrogation.

In the interrogation with the security guard, it emerges that both the shop owner and Anders Öfvergård play at the same golf club.

– They have the same golf club and he (the shop owner, editor’s note) said he can take beer from there with him. We stood for quite some time as the police took my arrest report. The trader stood outside and waited because he wanted to look him in the eye, says the security guard in the interrogation, which is included in the police’s preliminary investigation report.

Anders Öfvergård has been prosecuted for petty theft, and the trial has taken place in Nacka district court. As a defender, Anders Öfvergård has the star lawyer Johan Eriksson.

He is considered one of Sweden’s foremost defense lawyers and during his long career has had clients such as the Drottninggatan terrorist Rahmat Akilov, the mass murderer Mattias Flinkthe SD politician Kent Ekeroth and one of the men who were charged for the high-profile helicopter robbery in Västberga in 2009.

During the trial, which is out on Prime Crime, Anders Öfvergård gives his version of what happened there at Ica Maxi Värmdö. And then Öfvergård comments on the accusations that he would have stolen beer at his golf club.

Lawyer Johan Eriksson asks Öfvergård during the trial if he knew the store owner from before. Öfvergård then replies that he knows who the owner is because they play golf at the same golf club.

Anders Öfvergård also believes that since he is a public figure, there is a lot of talk, and that this is the downside of celebrity.

– I am – again – a public figure. I have eyes on me all the time. I’ve even heard that I wouldn’t have paid for beer at my own golf club. This is so crazy. I have an account there so I prepay there, where it is then deducted from the payment I have made. I have my eyes on me so people can think “that he doesn’t pay”. And then there will be a lot of talk. This is the back. That’s how it is, says Anders Öfvergård during the trial.
