“I have never suffered like this”: exploited workers in Champagne, they demand compensation

According to the Group of European Experts on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA), labor exploitation has increased in all EU member countries, driven by poverty, unemployment and of a growing informal economy. In France, the agricultural sector is regularly shaken by scandals. Two investigations are underway, notably in the Champagne region, known for its sparkling wine, after the harvest period. They highlight the conditions in which seasonal workers, often foreign workers, are employed and housed. West African, Senegalese, Guinean, Malian employees, without papers, they are today trying to obtain compensation.
