Ingemar Stenmark is now competing in the pole vault at the veteran WC.

During his active time as an alpine skier he conquered Armand Duplantis the whole world and dominated greatly. He won two Olympic golds, five World Cup golds and became one of our most popular athletes of all time.
Stenmark in new sport
In the autumn of his age, Stenmark has found love in a completely different sport – far from skis and boots, but with poles to help him. At 68 years old, Stenmark is currently in Gothenburg to compete in the pole vault during the Veterans WC.

To help him during the upload, he has had the world’s best pole vaulter, Armand Duplantis.
– We have met in recent months and have talked a lot. I usually train after him in the hall in Sollentuna. I’ve looked around quite a bit, we’ve said that I’ll take part in a training session, but it hasn’t worked out. Sure, I’ve given some advice, but I can’t think of anything concrete now. I don’t think he has dared to ask that much, but I am one hundred percent willing to help him more, says “Mondo” to Aftonbladet.
Mondo impressed
Duplantis won both Olympic gold and broke a new world record recently, but is really impressed by what he sees when “Stenis” jumps.
– It’s really cool and feels wonderful that he will start at the veteran WC. I don’t think it’s his last competition either. It’s great for the sport of pole vaulting, which I love so much. It’s obvious that he thinks it’s fun and is interested. It’s insanely impressive how fit and athletic he still is at his age. It’s almost sick, he has the same vertical as me from the plank, says Duplantis in the interview.
– He was before my time, so I find it difficult to grasp what he has achieved in the same way as my mother. Still, I’ve heard a lot and seen some videos. Then the most common compliment I get is that I’m the new Ingemar Stenmark in Sweden and I think that’s cool.

A few days ago, Ingemar Stenmark published a video of himself on Instagram, see below, with the words: “The training hall was busy”. Then the icon shows off his incredible resilience when he jumps with a birch pole(!) over a bar two meters into the air outdoors and then lands on his feet in the grass.
– It is very impressive. When I see him, it’s the same feeling as when I started pole vaulting. It is the inner child that comes out with that passion. It’s so fun to be with someone who has the same passion as myself. I love to do the same thing, jump like they did back in the days. I have driven with a bamboo stick sometimes, says “Mondo” to the evening newspaper.
The video on Instagram, which you can see below, has received over 27,000 likes and a lot of comments with happy exclamations
