“I had the AI ​​fix it!”

The God of War creator poked fun at the new Zelda’s graphics on Twitter, saying he had an AI fix them.

Who is the person you are talking about? David Jaffe is an American game designer and credited as the creator of God of War. The 52-year-old created the game series on PlayStation 2 in 2005. He also created the Twisted Metal racing game series.

Jaffe has not worked on the fan-favorite new GoW parts for PS4 and PS5 – he is currently not involved in game development.

What did Jaffe say about Zelda’s graphics? In a post on Twitter on May 12, Jaffe addressed the graphics for the new The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The game designer is surprised why the new Zelda does not receive any criticism for the modest graphics, because the visual design of games is otherwise a much-discussed topic.

In a second post on May 18th, Jaffe again goes into the graphics of Zelda: TotK. On Twitter, the game designer shared a picture showing Link (the main character of the Zelda series), a forest with a lake in the middle and some mountains surrounded by clouds. Jaffe writes:

Don’t worry folks! I had AI fix it! […] Someone should send this to the people at Nintendo and show them how to do the graphics next time.

According to his own statements, Jaffe had the Zelda image created using AI and indicated with the wording that the graphics of the game had to be repaired.

How are the players reacting? While many players explained in Jaffe’s first post why Zelda was not receiving any criticism despite the graphics and that the Nintendo Switch was reaching its limits in the game, this time there is significantly more contradiction for Jaffe’s statements.

    In the responses to the Zelda image created by an AI, Jaffe also makes it clear that he is trolling Zelda fans (via Twitter) and adds in a later post on Twitter that he is amazed at how many people take his statements seriously.

    Nevertheless, Jaffe stands by his statement that parts of the game are ugly and explains them again in a video on YouTube. There, the game designer also emphasizes that he likes Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom very much and has a lot of fun with the game. Jaffe also says he understands the limitations of the Nintendo Switch and that he likes the game’s art style.
