“I felt like I was going to die”

What a thrill it was in the five miles!
And William Poromaa burst into tears after the incredible WC bronze.
– I just cried and cried like a baby, he says to Viaplay.

The very last race of the World Ski Championships 2023 in Planica was also the most exciting one ever seen. After a raging sprint battle succeeded William Poromaa win a heroic WC bronze after a real super race.

Poromaa’s tears

The medal is Poromaa’s very first in his career and also the first Swedish men’s medal in six long years. And after the finish, Poromaa burst into wonderful tears.

For this very moment he has longed for all his life.
– It has felt as good as anything and I have tried to be patient and let it take the time it takes. I felt “I’m going to fucking die over that finish line to show everyone what I can do”. It means so much to so many. I am so grateful for everyone back home, says the WC hero in Viaplay’s broadcast.

“Cried like a baby”

The 22-year-old really gave it his all in the five-mile and refused to go home without a medal around his neck.
– It has felt like I had pressure on me. I’ve always said I enjoy it, but it’s tough. I cried and cried like a baby afterwards. There has been a lot of pressure and I am so grateful, he says in the television broadcast.

There were many who were proud of William Poromaa’s incredible effort.
– I am completely exhausted. It’s close to tears, says the Viaplay expert Johan Olsson in the broadcast.

It was otherwise a Norwegian double at the very top of the podium. Paul Golberg won the WC gold after a sprint battle against Johannes Hösflot Kläbo who had to settle for the WC silver in the last race of the Ski WC.
