“I feel crappy but…”

Sarah Sjöström is one of Sweden’s greatest hopes for gold in the Summer Olympics.
Now swimming legend Therese Alshammar steps forward with unexpected words.
– I feel crappy – Sarah must not read this, she tells Expressen.

Already as a mere 14-year-old did Sarah Sjostrom Olympic debut in 2008 in Beijing. Now she has turned 30 years old, is one of the world’s best swimmers and is getting ready for her fifth consecutive Summer Olympics in Paris.

Sjöström in the Olympics

She has collected over 40 gold medals in the World Cup and European Championships, but in the Olympics she has only won a single gold, as well as two silver and one bronze. This summer, she can only increase that medal haul with one medal as the Swede has decided to only compete in one individual race, namely the 50 meter freestyle.

The legendary swimmer Therese Alshammarwho is now an Olympic expert at Discovery, is completely convinced of how things will go for Sjöström in Paris.
– I’m not going to jinx this, but it will probably be quite easy gold for her, says Alshammar in an interview with Expressen.
– It is enough to look at how it has looked historically in the last two years and how everyone else has swum. There is no one around. But tell Sarah not to read this. I feel like crap putting extra pressure on her, but there’s no one close to being on the same level. If it were to be any other way, I would be very, very surprised.

Alshammar’s words

Alshammar really surprises everyone with his extremely positive words that Sjöström will swim an Olympic gold so easily. The Olympic expert isn’t even worried that Sarah might wake up and have a really bad day when it’s time for the 50m freestyle final.
– Not Sarah, she actually doesn’t have it. Even if she tenses up a bit, she has such good margins. That is her enormous strength, and she has a very good self-esteem. She is confident that she is the best in the world. She has no doubts, says Therese Alshammar about her conviction.
– I would say that Sarah has the surest Swedish gold in the Olympics, and Duplantis of course. But they are in the exact same league.

Alshammar also admits that she thinks Sarah Sjöström is throwing away medal chances at the Olympics by only competing in one distance.
– Yes, but that’s probably because she doesn’t want any other denomination than gold. I really think she dislikes being second so much that that’s why she chooses to do this. She simply does not want to be beaten at any of the distances she has already won, says the Olympic expert.
