Sander does not find all the flowers in the shop. He also goes out to photograph flowers. You can do that anywhere, in a beautiful flower garden, but also just around the corner in a municipal park. “I also photograph small insects there. There are a lot of bees in a bush nearby. I incorporate them into my still lifes because they become much more lively. The ladybug is my favourite, that is my trademark. In all my works of art there is a very small ladybug, because it looks so sweet. But in the meantime it’s a big dragon.” You often see butterflies in Sander’s photo collages. “They were often set up. A friend’s father put them on and I was allowed to photograph him. Unfortunately, this man is no longer there. But I do have very nice memories of it.”
