Armand Duplantis has conquered the entire sports world in recent years.
And compared to Swedish icons such as Björn Borg and Ingemar Stenmark.
However, “Mondo” fights back against all comparisons with the giants.
It was 2018 as a youngster Armand Duplantis completely broke through by winning a surprise European Championship gold in Berlin. It was the start of a fabulous success story for the Swedish pole vaulter.
Duplanti’s greatness
Since then, he has conquered the entire athletics world and become “Mondo” with the Swedish people. Duplantis has won one Olympic gold, four World Cup gold and three European Championship gold so far and he still has so much left to win.

Today, he is only 24 years old and well on his way to becoming history’s very best pole vaulter ever. So far, Duplantis has broken eight world records and everything points to the Swedish world star continuing to reach new record heights.
Castle & Stenmark
As dominant as he is in pole vaulting, of course the comparisons quickly went to the Swedish icons Björn Borg and Ingemar Stenmarks hold. They are two of our greatest blue and yellow sporting heroes of all time and if Duplantis continues like this it is only a matter of time before he is mentioned in the same category as the legendary duo.

But Mondo, for his part, sees no reason to compare himself to the great sports personalities when it comes to building his own legacy as a sports icon.
– The thing for me is that I don’t really know how to be able to compete against Björn Borg. I compete against Sergej Bubka. I am competing against Renaud (Lavillenie). Because I want to be better than them in my sport. But I’m not competing against Björn Borg or anyone else. I’m just trying to jump high. The rest beyond that will work itself out, says Duplantis in an old interview with Aftonbladet.
