RomComs have migrated to the streaming sector in recent years. The heyday of romantic comedies in cinema seems to be history. But wait, not so fast! The latest silver screen hopeful of the genre is called Where the Lie Falls and is already a success at the box office.
In some countries, Where the Lie Falls aka Anyone but You opened very successfully in December 2023, so that the film has already grossed $80 million is coming (via Box Office Mojo). The stars are probably responsible for this: Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell.

Sweeney and Powell are currently two of the most sought-after names in Hollywood. Sweeney is known from series such as Euphoria and The White Lotus and shone in the indie film Reality, which premiered at the Berlinale in 2023. Powell was promoted to the position two years ago secret star in the action blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick.

Yes, Powell stole the show from Tom Cruise during the nerve-racking flying action. As it turns out, filming Where the Lie Falls was apparently even more dangerous than the Top Gun sequel. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Powell reveals that the shoot was one Scene with a helicopter was very delicate.
The helicopter had serious mechanical problems and we had to make an emergency landing in a nearby field. If we had crashed, we would have been history. There would be nothing left of us. I didn’t survive Top Gun: Maverick only to die in a RomCom.
In the end everything went well, so we can now look forward to the theatrical release of Where the Lie Falls. As of today, this January 18, 2024, the film is showing in the local cinemas. Let’s hope its success sparks a wave of star-studded RomComs. This genre has become far too rare in cinema.

We’ve known for a few days that the Top Gun saga isn’t over yet. Tom Cruise returns alongside co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell in part 3 of the popular film series. However, it is not yet clear when Top Gun 3 will be released in cinemas. For now, we can look forward to Powell in the disaster film Twisters. Sweeney will be conquering the Marvel universe in Sony’s superhero blockbuster Madame Web starting in February.
