“I could have won the Ballon d’Or if I had not taken cocaine”, the confession of a former star

I could have won the Ballon dOr if I had

Former attacker, this star believes that he could have won the Ballon d’Or without this bad direction.

Former world football star, notably in France on the side of AC Ajaccio, Romanian Adrian Mutu has engaged in an interview for the Telegraph. A true icon in his country, the attacker scored hundreds of goals during his entire career, from Fiorentina to Chelsea, via Juventus. Very comfortable technically, Adrian Mutu could even have entered the pantheon of world football … but his career took a dramatic turning point with a cocaine taking during his visit to Chelsea, in October 2004. Suspended 7 months for doping at the time, the attacker regrets.

“Taking cocaine during my visit to Chelsea was the worst decision I could make in my career. I was alone and sad, but neither the depression nor anything justified my actions. I should have asked for help, and I did not do it. However, we learn everything in life, and this lesson has made me a better person, much more mature and more aware of myself.

“I could have won the Ballon d’Or”

If his career has not stopped and his passage in Italy was able to relaunch it, Adrian Mutu believes that without this episode, he could have claimed the Ballon d’Or. “I have thought about it several times. I think that for more than one season, I was among the best players in the world, so I could have won it easily. But bad decisions prevented me. I try not to blame myself.”

Adrian Mutu has now become a coach. For the moment, his career has not really taken off with already six trained clubs, as well as the selection of Romania under 21. He now displays a real ambition, being able to train in England. “Without a doubt, it would be an important step in my career,” he launches in his interview.
