“I believe that the decision closed the doors to the Yankees”

The NHLs support is the lifeblood of a new womens

Ice hockey’s PWHL published the training camp player lists on Monday. The Finnish player Minttu Tuominen, who was reserved for the league in September, is not included because he has signed a contract with another club.

Minttu Tuominen will not be playing in North America’s new women’s hockey league, the PWHL. The Minnesota team booked him in mid-September, but Tuominen has signed a contract with another club.

– More than a week after the booking event, I received a contact about such an interesting story. Then I signed a contract there, and that’s why I’m not going to North America, Tuominen tells Urheilu.

According to him, Minnesota was not happy when Tuominen told the club about it. However, Tuominen estimates with his agent that he can play elsewhere.

– According to me and my agent’s point of view, no one owns my (player) rights worldwide, but only in that league. So I can’t sign with, say, a New York team because Minnesota has my rights. Of course they weren’t happy with my decision, but in the same way this (hockey) is a business for me as it is for them. That’s why I made my own decision on this point, Tuominen says.

In September, 90 players were reserved for the new league, of which 88 will participate in training camps. Along with Tuomien, a US player booked by Boston Tatum Skaggs is not listed.

Importing and Susanna Tapani were the only Finnish players booked for the PWHL in September. Minnesota reserved both Finns, Tapani was the 25th reservation and Tuominen the 84th. My habit is Minnesotan with the team at training camp. The first season of the league starts in January 2024.

Tuominen does not yet say what his new club is. However, he confirms that he will not play in Kiekko-Espoo in the future. Tuominen has played nine matches in the Women’s League this season with an output of 3+11=14.

– I’m not going to the Yankees and I believe that this decision closed the doors there. I am quite satisfied with my decision.

The 33-year-old Tuominen estimates that he might have gone to build his career in North America as a younger player. Now, however, he decided otherwise.

– This (new contract) is perhaps a one-season thing. I wanted a bigger role and this was a good decision financially – and a small-scale adventure on the side was attractive this time, says Tuominen.
