A 17-year-old has surrendered to the police as guilty of the assault of a well-known German candidate in the EU elections, media in the country report.
– I am the perpetrator who attacked the SPD politician, said the boy when he entered a police station in Dresden on Sunday morning, according to German police.
Matthias Ecke, top candidate for the Social Democrats in Germany, was assaulted on Friday when he was out putting up posters for the EU elections in June. He was hospitalized with serious injuries.
The attack has been condemned across Europe as an act against democracy.
