I asked ChatGPT to produce a weekly food voucher for SEK 500 – this is how it went

I asked ChatGPT to produce a weekly food voucher for

The AI chatbot “ChatGPT” is used more and more in the home and workplace. One way you can use it is meal planning. According to Mathematics You can actually save money by planning your meals through a weekly menu.

But creating a weekly menu can take time and feel difficult. ChatGPT does it for you in just a few seconds, and not only that. You can get recipes tailored to your exact preferences and budget. If you want vegetarian, or if you don’t like fish, then ChatGPT adapts the plan for you.

After the lawsuit: The New York Times bets on AI

Can plan and create shopping lists

I wanted to try this for the week, so I simply requested ChatGPT by typing:

“Can you create a meal plan for one person and a shopping list. My budget is SEK 500”. The AI then responded with a few simple counter questions:

  • How many days do you want the meal plan to cover?
  • Do you have any specific preferences or restrictions (eg vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.)?
  • How many meals per day do you want to include (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks)?
  • Are there any specific foods you prefer or avoid?
  • I explained that I want the plan for a week, that I am lactose intolerant and that I only need lunch and dinner. The AI then spit out a number of recipes, adjusted according to approximate prices in Sweden, as well as a shopping list that landed at 495 kroner.

This is how the answer was:

    “Monday
Lunch: Quinoa salad with chickpeas and vegetables
Dinner: Lactose-free chicken curry with rice

    Tuesday
Lunch: Salmon fillet with boiled potatoes and steamed vegetables
Dinner: Vegetarian pasta with tomato sauce and zucchini

    Wednesday
Lunch: Cold bean salad with olive oil, lemon and fresh herbs
Dinner: Stir-fry with tofu, broccoli, and carrots served with rice

    Thursday
Lunch: Avocado and egg sandwich on lactose-free bread
Dinner: Lactose-free lasagna with minced meat and spinach

    Friday
Lunch: Couscous salad with grilled vegetables and feta cheese (lactose-free)
Dinner: Fish tacos with cabbage salad and lactose-free sour cream

    Saturday
Lunch: Chicken salad with apple, walnuts and lactose-free dressing
Dinner: Homemade hamburgers with lactose-free cheese and sweet potato fries

    Sunday
Lunch: Baked salmon with quinoa and avocado salad
Dinner: Vegetarian curry with coconut milk and rice”

It is important to remember that the estimate of prices may be incorrect and out of date, but that it should not differ too much from reality.

AI Person or Real – Can You Tell the Difference?

    There are limitations

The bot didn’t include how much of everything I needed to buy on the shopping list and some of the answers are a bit unclear, but for inspiration and to save time it will do.

If you have the paid version of ChatGPT, you should even be able to take a picture of what you have in the fridge, and it should then be able to create recipes based on it. However, I recommend looking up, or asking ChatGPT to look up, recipes from real people for the best tasting experience. After all, the robot doesn’t have taste buds…yet.
