A midwife for ten years, Anna Roy has appealed to the public authorities so that every woman who gives birth in France can benefit from a midwife on her own. “A woman = a midwife” is the message this perinatal professional wants to convey. Two strikes are scheduled for February 2021.
Institutional abuse
If you had asked Anna Roy, a midwife at the Maternité des Bleuets and a liberal in the Marais several years ago, if she was mistreating her patients, she would have, by her own admission, refuted with many convictions that he was not. As the years progressed, the professional ended up finding that in fact, and institutionally, midwives (as well as caregivers) are mistreating.
On November 11, Anna Roy posted a text on Instagram that would quickly go viral. She told about all the times when she felt she had been mistreating her patients, all the times when due to lack of time, resources and staff, she could not be properly present for these women who are giving birth.
In interview granted to the magazine Brut, it challenges the President of the Republic and specifies how midwives are ill-treating: “When during a call you have 3 women in labor plus emergencies to manage, you are in mistreatment. ” This one to develop: “When I can’t even bring them a glass of water, when I leave them in disgusting sanitary napkins, when their beds are not remade: mistreatment goes very quickly.”
According to Anna Roy, this lack of resources and staff leads the hospital and maternity hospitals not to respect the wishes of women who give birth: “A woman who does not want to give birth with an epidural has the right to have a midwife with her who massages her, who sussies her sweet words, who supports her, who encourages her.“Another form of mistreatment, it is also these women who hear themselves say”I’ll be back in 2 minutes”Whereas the professional, overwhelmed, will end up not reappearing until 3 hours later, says Anna Roy.

A call that has gone viral
Author of the Sage Meuf podcast and columnist for the show La Maison des Maternelle on France 4, Anna Roy also launched on social networks the hashtag #jesuismaltraitante, #jesuismaltraitant and # noussommesmaltraitées which quickly went viral. On Instagram, patients and professionals alike share their experiences of abuse.
A petition launched by journalist Clémentine Sarlat also saw the light of day on the Change.org platform. Co-signed by Anna Roy, but also Clémentine Galey, founder and producer of the podcast Bliss, Alison Cavaillé, founder of the Tajinebanane brand and Agathe Lecaron, journalist and presenter of the program La Maison des Maternelles, it is addressed to Olivier Véran and asks what a “midwife can accompany the mother-to-be from A to Z during her labor and childbirth. ”
Strikes for February 2021
To denounce these working conditions which are gradually leading to mistreatment, the midwives called for a strike, in the hospital (private and public) and in PMI, for February 10 and 24, 2021. Appropriate staffing, remuneration commensurate with the responsibilities required of midwives, true medical status and recognition of the profession by the authorities are on the agenda. Given the health situation, no call to demonstrate has been launched. Maieutics students are invited to support the movement by wearing a distinctive sign on their blouse.
