Hyundai released more information about its entry into the WEC track series. Cyril Abiteboul, boss of Hyundai’s World Rally Team, starts as team manager of the new team.
Hyundai has confirmed the drivers with which the car brand will start in the WEC track series in the Hypercar class in the 2026 season. The drivers of the team are the German driver who won the drivers’ championship in the WEC series this season André Lotterer and the Brazilian strike Beanie Derani.
At the same time, Hyundai confirmed that the boss of Hyundai’s World Rally Team Cyril Abiteboul starts as team manager of the new Genesis team.
The Genesis team is said to be driving in the series “supported by Hyundai Motorsport”. According to Abiteboul, the decision to join the WEC series takes Hyundai Motorsport’s track program “to a completely new level”.
The press release did not mention how the decision affects the operation of Hyundai’s rally team. Earlier it was rumored that Hyundai would switch to running its WC rally team through a private team from the 2026 season. However, the rumor has not yet been confirmed.
Abiteboul has led Hyundai’s World Rally Team since 2023. He also serves as the director of Hyundai Motorsport. The team won the drivers’ championship this season, when Thierry Neuville got to celebrate the championship.
