Hyundai Ioniq 6 goes on sale in the UK

Hyundai will make the Ioniq 6 available for order on November 9 in the UK. The electric car is priced at just over GBP 54,995 or €63,700.

The car looks interesting on its own and has no chance of being confused with another car on the road. Hyundai has decided to color the First Edition in four color options – Biophollic Blue Pearl, Serenity White Pearl, Nocturne Gray Metallic and Gravity Gold Matte.

While the names sound exciting, the colors themselves are a bit confusing. Gravity Gold Matte looks like any other silver and it is quite difficult to see any pearl or serenity in Serenity White Pearl. Nocturne Gray Metallic looks like any other gray color. I hope the images on the website are misleading and their live versions bear their real names.

To complement the exterior, the 20-inch wheels come in matte black and there are numerous glossy black accents such as the underside of the rear bumper, side mirrors, front and rear lower spoiler and side sills.

Inside, just like the Prophecy Concept, a classy gray plaid fabric greets us on the seats with leather side bolsters. Plaid accents continue on the floor mats, and the rest of the cabin comes in darker shades of gray and black.

The First Edition Ioniq 6 comes with a 77.4 kWh 800V battery pack that supports DC fast charging up to 350 kW. The twin-engine AWD system has 325 HP (239 kW) and 605 Nm of torque – it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and has a claimed range of 515 km.

The First Edition will come with a subscription to Ionity Premium, which offers discounted prices for DC charging, prices can go as low as 0.25 GBP or 0.27 € per kWh, according to the company – the subscription is free. If you want to know, Ionity Premium is 13 € per month.

Assuming the actual range is around 420 km, charging the Ioniq 6 costs just €21, or around €5 per 100 km using the Ioniq DC chargers. At 25,000 km per year, around €1,400 (1,210 GBP) including subscription costs – this is cheaper than a 250cc scooter.

Hyundai hasn’t confirmed how many First Edition vehicles have been allocated for the UK market, but the total number for Europe is just 2,500 – if you want one, you’ll have to be fast. Delivery dates are also yet to be confirmed, but should start in December this year – possibly extending to January 2023.
