(Finance) – The European Commission offered his support to the European industry ofhydrogen with the purpose of increase the production capacity of electrolysers by ten times. This is what emerged following a meeting, yesterday in Brussels, between the Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton and the managing directors of 20 European manufacturers of electrolysers.

It was discussed how to increase the capacity of electrolysers in order to produce more clean hydrogen. In this regard, a joint declaration was signed in which the industry has pledged to increase tenfold its electrolyzer production capacity by 2025. This will enable annual production of 10 million tons of hydrogen renewable in the EU by 2030, a goal set by the REPowerEU Plan launched in March 2022, after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed on Russia, which aims to create a European energy union. This plan will improve sustainable and secure energy supplies and reduce the EU’s dependence on Russian gas. Brussels is committed for its part to establish a favorable regulatory frameworkfacilitate access to finance and promote efficient supply chains.

“Clean hydrogen is essential to reduce industrial CO2 emissions and contribute to our energy independence from Russia”, said Commissioner Breton, adding “we have no time to waste, which is why the European summit on electrolysers was so timely. Industry has agreed to multiply electrolyser production capacities in Europe by ten and the Commission will support this significant industrial expansion to secure leadership in tomorrow’s clean energy technologies. ”
