0-8 at home against Malmö Redhawks was the nail in the coffin.
Tomas Montén has been fired by HV71 after a tough start to the season.
Now the sports director Kent “Nubben” Norberg reveals why the coach had to go.
There were only twelve games for Tomas Montén as head coach for HV71. After only ten recorded points and placed at the bottom of the table, the coup d’état came this weekend when they lost 0-8 at home against Malmö Redhawks.
HV71 has acted
On Sunday night came the news that Montén has been fired by HV71 who needs to make an immediate change if this season is not to turn into a complete fiasco. New head coach will be the former gold coach Johan Lindbom.
– The sporting performance of the men’s team has been rejected and we must reverse the trend we are in. We need to bring new energy into the team and therefore the board has made the decision to appoint Johan Lindbom as the new head coach, says Andreas Davidssonchairman of HV71, in a press release.

Lindbom has previously worked as a club director in HV71 but is now allowed to step down into the booth again. The first task will be to take revenge against the Malmö Redhawks on Tuesday after 0-8 in the back on Saturday.
– I am convinced that there is much more to be gained from the team. Hockey is teamwork and my task will now be to get the players to lift themselves up and also act as a team, says the new HV coach in a statement.
The dude explains
The sports director Kent “Nubben” Norberg was the one who made the decision to fire Montén and now reveals why it happened.
– I have never said anything other than that I have ultimate responsibility for it. But at the same time I also have an employer responsibility and the way Tomas was feeling and the way it looked on Saturday with everything, it would have been direct misconduct to put him in the booth against Malmö on Tuesday, he explains in an interview with Radiosporten.

Nubben is also acutely aware that his own mission as sporting director hangs on a fragile thread after the tough start to the season.
– I understand that, I’m not stupider than that. At the same time, I have said that as long as the board says that I will drive like that… But I am absolutely sure that my name was on the agenda yesterday as well, he says to the radio channel, but still admits that he still feels the trust of the board.
– Yes, but I think so. Although it may sound strange, but trust I will have until they fire me.
