Follow the match between Oskarshamn and HV71 on TV4 Play.
The anxiety-filled qualifying series between Oskarshamn and HV71 was completely even, 1-1, before Wednesday night’s third match. After the first period, the score was still completely even after neither team managed to break the deadlock.
Despite the lack of goals, there was a lot of entertainment in Oskarshamn, where a lot of fight and emotions were displayed.
One of the people who has been at the center of events during the match series is Oskarshamn’s Viktor Lodin, who was behind most of Oskarshamn’s victory in the first match, among other things. After the first period, he was asked about the punches handed out during the first act.
– They want to talk and I just answer. I think it’s a perfectly okay period for us, they don’t keep up on the ice, then they have to talk to us instead, Lodin stated for TV4 Play.
In the beginning of the second period, Lodin then responded to his performance by assisting Hynek Zohorna for the first goal of the match. But the drama had only just begun.
First, HV71 could equalize at the end of the second period through Oliwer Kaski. But in the middle of the third, Oskarshamn regained command when Austin Wagner managed a free position.
Late receipt
After that, Oskarshamn looked to be heading for a victory and a 3–1 goal hung in the air, but the home team’s reward did not materialize and instead HV71 would stick up and equalize.
With less than four minutes left in the match, Isac Brännström kept his cool when, free with the goalkeeper, he was able to score the 2–2 goal – a goal that meant extra time.
Then it was HV71 and Oskar Stål-Lyrenäs who would have the last word.
After barely five minutes of play, Stål-Lyrenäs got a gap that allowed him to advance in the castle. With a rapturous finish, he was then able to outwit Tomas Rydén in the home goal, whereupon wild joy erupted among the away players.
The goal means that HV71 now steps up to a 2–1 lead in the match series and thus the Jönköping team has regained the home field advantage in the match series, which is played in the best of seven games.
