HV71 secured the SHL contract – Oskarshamn leaves

TV: WATCH THE HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MATCH ON TV4 PLAY.

The conditions for the match were very simple, the winner remains in the SHL. The loser plays in the Hockeyallsvenskan next season.

The first period ended scoreless, but it was open and it swung both ways. The closest Oskarshamn got to a lead was when Austin Wagner stood close to Frederik Dichow and via Wagner’s skate took the puck in the post and out behind Dichow.

In the second period it was all over for HV71, it only took three minutes before Husqvarna Garden exploded in joy when Åke Stakkestad made it 1-0.

Shortly after, Nick Olesen incurred a costly expulsion. In the power play, Oliwer Kaski lifted the stick and scored 2-0 to HV71.

– It was tense after a so-so first. Stakkestad’s 1-0 infused energy and then comes 2-0, commented expert Sanny Lindström in TV4’s broadcast.

Speaking of Åke Stakkestad, he made sure to extend the lead with seven minutes left in the second period and with 3-0 to HV71 on the board, Martin Filander took a timeout.

– We go out and play our game and trust it, you have to do it, said Stakkestad after two periods played.

Oscar Engsund was, for obvious reasons, disappointed after the second period:

– It’s a crappy period, three crappy pucks that go in after mistakes by us.

In the third period, there was no great drama. HV71 played controlled, Oskarshamn got no bite in the offensive zone and Frederik Dichow at the back held tight. André Petersson turned up the pace along the edge, the sideways pass sat on the blade of Nick Shore and then it was 4-0 with eight minutes left to play.

Oskarshamn picked out Tomas Rydén shortly later in a desperate attempt to chase a goal, then Oliwer Kaski could lift 5-0 in an empty cage.

The match ended 5-0. HV71 plays in the SHL in the 2024-2025 season, for Oskarshamn games await in the Hockeyallsvenskan.

– It is an incredible relief. Oskarshamn is doing a great series, not completely satisfied with our series but now it’s a huge relief, said Simon Önerud to TV4 after the match.
