HV71 led 2-0 after the first period, but Bobby Nardella was responsible for a concussion and incurred a match penalty after the end of the period.

It would be costly, because Växjö reduced four minutes into the second period.

When HV71 then got the chance to play powerplay for four minutes after Eric Martinsson went on a 2+2 too high club, another cold shower came for HV71 when Noah Östlund equalized the match.

Växjö were not satisfied there, but Robert Rosén splashed in 3-2 with barely five minutes left to play. The match ended 4-2 to Växjö and the loss now means that HV71’s lifelines are over.

They will play the SHL qualifier against Oskarshamn, which begins on March 15.

– It is frustrating that we manage to find ways to lose the matches. We have probably been in this position for a while now and we have started to prepare (before the qualifiers. reds, note), said Simon Önerud after the match.
