Modo won the anxiety -charged bottom meeting against HV71, with a real crush.
-We lose patience the longer the match goes, says HV coach Anton Blomqvist.
This week’s matches have been described by experts as the most important of the season, as it is a record -even table that can be reversed considerably after three rounds before a break.
Before tonight’s match, Modo was last, where they have been for most of the season. They had a point up to 13th team HV71, which had 46 points before the match.
It was Modo who took the chance when three lead -heavy points were at stake.
After two periods played, Modo had the lead with 0-2, after goals by Lukas Jasek and Victor Berglund. In the third period, David Bernhardt increased to 0-3. A little later, HV was able to reduce punishment, but Jamiro Reber missed. Instead, Modo made 0-4 through Sempo Ranta.
“We lose patience”
HV71 finally got a goal, by Tanner Kero. But after full time, the loss was a fact. 1-5 ended the match after Paul Ladue’s goal in the open box.
– We play them in our hands tonight. We lose patience the longer the match goes. We have respect for Modo’s offensive, and then you have to be smart and the focus must be on performing our gameplan, but we do not today, says HV71’s coach Anton Blomqvist and comments on the tough situation.
– We try not to look at the table so much. We have good parts of the game but we have to put together better 60 minutes to give us a chance.
MODO is now stepping about both HV71 and Linköping, and is thus on safe ground. It is the first time since October 10 that Modo is not in qualifying. HV71 has two upcoming matches against Leksand this week, where six points can mean a lot to both teams. Modo has Växjö and Färjestad as the next opponent.
