HV71 coach Anton Blomqvist leaves after the third straight loss

Anton Blomqvist is really angry.
His HV71 has lost all three games so far in the SHL and now he has had enough.
– There must be an end to that crap now, he says to Expressen.

It’s going hard for HV71. The Jönköping club has lost its three opening matches against Växjö, Skellefteå and Frölunda. The team is currently parked in the jumbo spot in the SHL table and the new coach Anton Blomqvist34, is anything but satisfied.

Tossed in several “junis”

Before the away meeting with Frölunda, HV71 had a total of eight players away. One of them was the big star André Petersson who only played one preseason game due to his injury history. He did not go to Gothenburg and must focus on recovering.

With several thrown in juniors on the ice, the Småland did not manage to disturb Frölunda enough. In the end it was a loss with 1-3. Two of the late goals were scored in a numerical disadvantage.

– It is difficult to win games when you only score one goal. The defensive play is good, the goalkeeping is great and we win the match five on five – but we concede two goals in box play. Unfortunately, it comes from really stupid expulsions, says Blomqvist to Expressen.

Saw own team

The expulsions in particular were something that Blomqvist reacted strongly to. As I said, Frölunda made two goals in the power play and also one at the end in an empty cage, when HV71 was chasing an equaliser.

– We are damned careless and take stupid expulsions – and there must be an end to that crap now. It would have been nice to be able to complain to the judges, but I don’t intend to do that at all. We are the ones who are far too unkempt. That is the reason why Frölunda wins this match, says Anton Blomqvist.

Now it’s really uphill for the HV71. On Saturday, Linköping awaits Bortais. The next home game is against Modo, Tuesday, October 1. Until then, Anton Blomqvist and his team have a lot of things to work on.

– I am far from good at everything, but I am very good at being where my feet are and that is here and now. Regardless of whether we win the next three or lose the next three, I don’t get particularly stressed, but I look at what we can influence in the game. Then I can’t kick the puck into the goal. But I need to keep encouraging the boys because we are doing a lot of good things in terms of play, he says.

Aw aw aw, heavy for the HV71. Not the start they wanted with their new coach.
