Husband quarrels with deleting the best Pokémon that a trainer has been collecting for years

A Pokémon GO player reached out to the community on Reddit after his partner deleted numerous rare pocket monsters. They react with concern.

What did the husband do? In a now-deleted post in the Pokémon GO subreddit, Reddit user Ninjavila reported that his partner had deleted numerous rare pocket monsters in an argument. Among them are said to have been a strong Letarking, a Mewto and other treasures.

The player says he’s been playing for years, now everything that he’s been working on for so long is gone. After contacting Niantic support in vain, he just had to get his frustration off his chest.

“Send him to the professor to make candy out of him”

How is the community reacting? The post garnered almost 3,000 upvotes and more than 1,000 comments. Many players are very attached to their Pokémon themselves and can understand Ninjavila’s frustration very well.

Some Reddit users react rather jokingly and suggest that the husband should be sent to the professor so that he can process him into candies or rate him using Pokémon terms: He’s like a caterpillar with mediocre IVs (via Reddit).

Others take the incident much more seriously and see the man’s behavior as a warning sign. He willfully destroyed something that was important to his partner. They advise Ninjavila to reconsider his relationship.

  • SplendidCuppaTea: This is so cruel. I know it’s technically ‘just a game’, but it’s something you enjoy and have put so much time into. He knows how much it means to you and how much it would hurt you, and he still did it.”
  • AlexMair89: “Totally correct in saying this is abuse. It may feel trivial in some ways, but it is the permanent removal of something that is valuable to you.”
  • fakeuser515357: “Also, he chose something that is intangible and that would seem trivial to other people because he knew it would hurt you and you would have trouble explaining that pain or getting support.”
  • Catching Pokemon while you sleep: This is Pokemon Sleep

However, some Reddit users point out that you can only see one side of the story here and cannot judge the relationship. However, there are better ways of resolving a conflict than destroying your partner’s property.

Ninjavila did not comment further on the incident and does not appear to have been active on Reddit since.

Gaming can sometimes be difficult to reconcile with a relationship. If the partner does not gamble himself, there may be a lack of understanding for the hobby. If you gamble together, it can be uncomfortable after a breakup to continue playing your favorite games alone.
