This is the special research: It’s about the special research “Proto-Rumble”, which has been available in Pokémon GO since February 17th. It consists of two task levels.
The special research isn’t that long and isn’t expiring, but it should be completed now as a matter of urgency.
Why should I complete the research now? As a reward for the last level, the special research contains a ticket to the worldwide Hoenn tour, which starts on Saturday.
This “activates automatically and grants you access to special bonuses and content from the Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn,” says the item description. The ticket gives you the opportunity to choose a team for the GO Tour – Ruby or Sapphire.
Niantic’s official support channel also warns on Twitter: “Trainers, we recommend completing the Primal Rumble Special Research before the Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn – Global to experience the full event gameplay with the Legend Hunt Special Research.” (via Twitter).
What is this special research? So far, the only thing known about the “Legend Hunt” is that the research is about Rhi from the Ultra Research Team – and the search for the Red and Blue Gem. These are related to Protomorphosis and the powerful new forms of Kyogre and Groudon.
What bonuses you miss without completing “Proto-Rumble” is only partially known. What is certain is that you wouldn’t have a team like that – and therefore, for example, you couldn’t complete special research for one of the teams. During the GO Tour, among other things, the “Challenge: Ruby vs Sapphire” runs, for which you need a team.
In addition, Latias (sapphire) and Latios (ruby) should also appear in the wild and be related to the respective medal that you get in the team decision. It is possible to miss these spawns without a team.
