Hurrikaani Loimaa convincingly marches towards the first championship in the clubs

On Tuesday, Hurrikaani-Loimaa rolled to the first volleyball league championship in its club history in front of fanatical supporters.

Hurrikaani-Loimaa beat Akaa-Volley from Pirkanmaa 3–0 (25-19,25-20,25–22) in the fourth final of the men’s volleyball Championship League and won the Finnish championship directly with a 4–0 victory.

The SM gold is the first in the club’s history. Hurrikaani, founded in 2007, had played in the finals no less than five times before the 2023–24 season, but each time silver medals were hung on the chests of the black and yellow jersey.

Also accompanies the pilot Olli Kuoksa the championship achieved as a head coach is the first. Kuoksa is a former libero who won both the Finnish championship and the Finnish cup while playing in Rovaniemi. However, his playing career ended at the age of 26.

Kuoksa spent 13 years coaching in Oulu, until he became the head coach of TuTo-Volley, which was promoted to the main league the previous season. Last summer, the 42-year-old from Rovaniemi moved 60 kilometers to the northeast, to Hurrikaani-Loimaa, where he signed a 3+2-year contract with the club.

Hurrikaani-Loimaa took the opening set 25–19 after leading the whole time. Eetu Häyrinen forged six points in the set and Miika Haapaniemi four.

In the second set, the solutions were seen after a 12–12 draw, when the home team instantly broke the gap to 18–12. Hurricane’s all-round player, who played in Akaaa last season Greg Petty get three points at that point, Vainö Rahko fed the ace and Santeri Välimaa presented a tackle point. The set was finally recorded 25–20.

In the third set, the 11-11 situation stretched again in an instant to 17-13 for Hürikaan, when the middle player Daena’s Gyimah and Petty got points for the yellow shirts and Akaa had two attacking mistakes. The set that sealed the championship was recorded for Hurikaan 25–22.

The SM medal was the third in a row for Akaa Volley. In the season 2021–22, the team won medals for the first time, bronze, and in the last season 2022–23, silver, as well as this year.

The story will be completed later.
