Hurricane Yagi ravages Vietnam News in brief

In the Philippines, a storm caused the death of more than 20 people earlier in the week.

Typhoon Yagi, raging in Asia, hit Vietnam on Saturday. The storm made landfall in Haiphong province with winds of over 40 meters per second.

The storm’s furious winds uprooted trees, took roofs with them, and smashed fishing boats into coastal rocks. At least four people were reported dead in the storm in Vietnam.

– I haven’t experienced a storm like this for years. It was scary, I stayed inside after putting all the windows up. However, the howling of the wind and the sounds of the rain were incredible, said Tran Thi Hoa, who lives in storm-ravaged Hai Phong province.

At least three people died and nearly a hundred were injured in the storm on the southern island of Hainan in China. Two million people from Hainan and its neighboring province of Guangdong were evacuated from the path of the storm.

Earlier this week, Yagi killed at least 20 people in the Philippines.
