Huron Perth public health launches spring COVID booster clinics

To meet Ontario’s new spring booster recommendations, Huron Perth public health will host a series of COVID-19 vaccination clinics this month, including one in Stratford April 11 and one in Goderich April 12.

As of April 6, provincial public-health guidelines recommend spring booster doses for people in specific high-risk groups if at least six months (168 days) have passed since their last dose or confirmed COVID-19 infection. These high risk groups are:

  • People aged 65 years and older;
  • Residents of long-term care homes, retirement homes, elder care lodges, and other congregate living settings for seniors;
  • People aged 18 years and older living in congregate-care settings for people with complex medical care needs;
  • Pregnant people;
  • People aged 18 years and older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised;
  • People aged 55 years and older who identify as First Nations, Inuit or Metis, and their non-Indigenous household members aged 55 years and older.

Dates and locations of all vaccine clinics across Huron and Perth counties this month can be found at www.hpph.ca/en/health-matters/book-or-find-a-vaccine.aspx. The clinic in Stratford on April 11 will have walk-in availability from 11 am to 3 pm

Anyone who is not a member of the above high-risk groups who has received a COVID booster on or after Sept. 1, 2022, is not recommended to receive a spring booster, however those aged five and older who wish to receive an additional booster may do so with informed consent if at least six months have passed since their previous dose or confirmed COVID-19 infection.

To book a spring-booster appointment through the provincial booking system, either visit www.ontario.ca/book-vaccinecall the Provincial Vaccine Contact Center at 1-833-943-3900, or call the Huron Perth public heath booking line at 1-833-753-2098.

COVID-19 vaccines continue to be available through participating local pharmacies and primary care providers.
