Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden, pleads guilty to tax fraud without reservation before a trial in Los Angeles.
Thus, the case does not go to trial, which Biden wanted to avoid. However, he renounces all possibilities of a settlement with the prosecutors and he risks up to 15 years in prison and a fine of one million dollars.
The trial concerns suspected tax crimes of 1.4 million dollars in the years 2016-2019.
The sentence will be announced on December 16.
Hunter Biden has previously been convicted of illegal gun possession for eleven days. He lied when he applied for a license for the weapon – which could land him a prison sentence. Biden had substance abuse problems when the crimes were committed.

Electric scooters are sold out even in Madrid. The Spanish capital prohibits, from October, the rental of the vehicles. They are considered a danger to pedestrians.
“Our priority is the safety of the people of Madrid,” writes the mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida Navasqüés on X and accuses the three companies that are currently allowed to rent electric scooters for serious safety deficiencies.
Paris, Montréal and Melbourne are other cities that have already fully or partially banned electric scooters.

During Thursday evening, several alarms were received about a loud bang in the Liljeholm area in Jönköping.
– It is a minor explosion that has taken place outdoors at a charcoal grill, says Camilla Larsson, police spokesperson for the east.
There should not have been any people on site at the time of the explosion.

Di Luca & Di Luca, the company behind the Zeta brand, is recalling the “Colussi Cantuccini chocolate” crusts with all best before dates after 01/15/2025. The reason is that the product may contain almonds, the company states in a press release.
The packaging is marked “may contain traces of nuts”, but the crusts have been found to contain occasional larger pieces of almonds.
According to the company, the recall of the product, which was sold by Ica, Citygross and Martin & Servera, is a precautionary measure.
A passenger car and an A-tractor have collided in Emmaboda municipality, the police say.

The trial in federal court in Los Angeles concerns suspected tax crimes of $1.4 million in the years 2016-2019.
But Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, says the president’s son will argue he didn’t do it on purpose.

The US state of New Mexico is suing the social media platform Snapchat for allowing children to be sexually exploited, reports CNBC.
According to the lawsuit, the app’s design and algorithms promote child pornography and child sexual exploitation, as well as drug and weapons trafficking. In addition, Snapchat is said to have made several statements about the company’s security that the company knew were false.
“Snap has misled users into thinking that photos and videos they send will disappear, but perpetrators can save the material permanently. The perpetrators have effectively created a catalog of child pornography that is traded, sold and stored indefinitely,” said the state’s Justice Minister Raúl Torrez in a statement according to CNBC.
The state has previously sued the company Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, on similar grounds.
The lawsuit against Snapchat comes after the New Mexico Department of Justice conducted an investigation in recent months. The review shows that there are sites where a large number of stolen images with sexual content have been published, images taken from Snapchat.

A leading figure in the criminal network Death Patrol, who was convicted in the district court of a murder in Uppsala in 2017, is released, reports P4 Uppland.
The verdict from the district court was appealed to the Svea Court of Appeal, which, when the trial ended on Thursday, decided that the man should be released from custody.
The decision indicates that the man, who was sentenced by the Uppsala District Court to nearly ten years in prison, will not be convicted of murder in the Court of Appeal.
The murder in question occurred on 1 April 2017 in the Boländerna district in Uppsala. Two masked people wearing white coveralls arrived at the scene by car and shot the victim dead as he left a fast food restaurant.

A 25-year-old man has been found dead in an apartment in Knivsta.
The police suspect that a crime is behind it and have opened a murder investigation.
The police have carried out a technical investigation and knocked on doors in the area.
No one has been arrested.

The Chinese government stops all adoptions of Chinese children to foreign adoptive parents.
The only exception concerns children or foster children adopted by relatives, according to government spokesman Mao Ning.
The announcement on Thursday already follows earlier decisions to reduce the adoption of Chinese children that were introduced during the corona pandemic.
Adoptions resumed when, among other things, travel restrictions were lifted, but then only for those who received entry permits to pick up adopted children before or during parts of 2020, according to data from the US State Department.
