After it was revealed that, as President, he pardoned a person convicted of child abuse in April 2023, Novak received reactions from various segments of society, especially the opposition.

As the reactions increased, President Novak, who had official contacts in Qatar, returned to the country. Novak announced in the video message he shared that he made a mistake and resigned from his position.
Prime Minister Viktor Orban did not remain indifferent to the reactions. Orban said he would propose a constitutional amendment that would eliminate the pardon of someone convicted of child abuse.
The person pardoned by Novak was convicted on the grounds of obscuring the crimes committed by an official who abused children at a school and therefore being an accessory to the crime.
