If prizes were awarded for the most attentive kid on the St. George Santa Claus parade block Harrison Roszell would surely be a contender.

Attending the parade with his mom Ashley, dad Bob, sister Paityn and grandmother Linda Lodewyks, four-year-old Harrison appeared to be in awe and transfixed by the parade.

Dressed in a winter coat and red and white Santa hat, Harrison was transfixed by the parade. He didn’t warn his eyes even for a second.

“We’re here every year,” Ashley said. “It’s always a good parade and the kids really enjoy it.

“We’re from St. George so this is a bit of a tradition for us.”

Ashley knelt down with Harrison to watch the parade while Dad held two-year-old Paityn in his arms for the spectacle, which brought hundreds of people to downtown St. George on Saturday night.

While it’s hard to estimate with any certainty how many people attended the parade, organizers said the crowd was bigger than usual.

The winds were calm and the temperature balmy for the parade.

“I think the weather played a big part with the larger than usual crowd,” Brian McDonald said. “We had 25 entries and after the parade we had a lot of families come to the fire station for a cup of hot chocolate and to visit Santa.”

The parade is organized by the St. George firefighters and all 24 members helped make it happen. The volunteer firefighters have been holding the parade since 1994

McDonald thanked Matt Amy for filling the most important job of the event for the firefighters again this year. He also thanked Brant OPP for assisting with the event.

“I also want to thank all of the people who took the time and effort to enter a float,” McDonald said. “The entries are truly what make the parade a great event.”

The parade was one of a couple of events that kept St. George firefighters busy on the weekend. Firefighters also took turns collecting food donations outside the Freshmart for the Christmas Hampers program.

The St. George parade was one of two scheduled to take place in Brant County on Saturday. The Burford Santa Claus parade also took place Saturday night.
