Around 250,000 people across Germany demonstrated against the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AFD), reports the public service company ARD. The demonstrations follow revelations of large-scale deportation plans.

On Saturday, protests were held in cities such as Dortmund, Hanover and Frankfurt. In total, demonstrations have been announced in around 100 locations in Germany as of Friday and over the weekend.

It is not only politicians, but also churches and elite football coaches who have called on people to show their opposition to AFD.

On January 10, investigative journalists at the Correctiv news site revealed that high-ranking AFD politicians met with right-wing extremists and business leaders, among others, and discussed how it could be possible to forcibly deport millions of people from Germany.
