The objectors, who call themselves residents of the Smitsveen district on Petitie24.nl, put forward ten reasons why the Open Court is not suitable as an asylum seekers’ center. In their opinion, Soest is already doing enough to offer asylum seekers shelter. They believe that safety and quality of life in their neighborhood are under pressure and that social facilities are overloaded. They call Smitsveen a problem neighborhood, which on the one hand does not contribute to the rapid integration of asylum seekers, and on the other hand creates more inequality of opportunity for local residents.
