The persons were picked up in international waters off Libya and Tunisia. Among the rescued people are 32 unaccompanied children and nine toddlers, according to the French organization.
The efforts took place in collaboration with the Italian coast guard.
So far this year, at least 2,013 migrants have died or gone missing trying to cross the Mediterranean, according to the UN migration agency IOM. That is many more than last year, when 1,417 people died.
