Hundreds of HC characters plunge to their deaths – that’s what’s behind it

In WoW Classic there is now collective mass extinction on some realms. But what’s behind it? The reason is, as is so often the case: greed.

In World of Warcraft Classic, everything is a little more serious – especially in the “hardcore” version of the game, where each character only has a single life. But strange things can be experienced in different streams or simply with a bit of luck on different realms.

Apparently many characters jump to their deaths completely consciously and thereby ruin their character – which raises questions. But this is not, as is often assumed, a protest action – but a particularly deadly game.

What happens on Classic Realms? Seen from the outside, it’s a bizarre sight. Hundreds of players gather at the foot of a mountain and look up in anticipation, while several characters gather at the top and enter the elevator. One by one, they then jump into the depths – and many of them die. The characters are permanently defeated and there is no second life.

Why do the players do this? In most cases, the reason for these jumps is competition. A large meeting at an elevator, such as the one in the “Thousand Needles” area, gathers onlookers and participants. One player usually draws an amount of gold, which the others then play for.

Aim of the game: Jump off the elevator in time so that you hit the ground with as few life points as possible but don’t die. Whoever ends up with the fewest life points gets the gold amount.

What’s exciting is that some characters who have already reached level 60 always take part in such events. They go “all out” and risk it so that their character is finished forever – because death is permanent.

What do you think of this campaign? A funny thing or is it crazy to put a high character at such risk?

The “jump into death” was also used as a symbol of protest when one of World of Warcraft’s largest private servers closed.
