Over 200 propalestinian activists are said to have been arrested in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

They had planned to get to the border with Gaza and demand that Israel allow emergency assistance into the war -torn area.

Among the arrested are people from the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Morocco and Algeria, says the manifestation’s organizers of the AFP news agency.

At a press conference on Wednesday, it was claimed that 4,000 participants were expected for Friday’s march against the border crossing Rafah. But some of them must have been arrested at the airport or at their hotels in Cairo.

“After interrogation, some were arrested while others were released,” said spokesman Saif Abukeshek.

The activists had planned to get by bus to the Sinai Peninsula and go the last five miles to the border crossing.

Israel, who, after terrorist -stamped Hama’s attack in October 2023, attacked Gaza, must have urged Egyptian authorities to “prevent jihadist protesters” from coming to the border. It would risk the security of Israeli soldiers, according to Defense Minister Israel Katz.

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry has said that attempts to “push Israel to lift the blockade against Gaza” have been supported. However, foreign delegations planning to visit the border area must apply for this and obtain formal permits.
