A piece of bone has been found on an old tip in Etelhem on Gotland, local media reports. The find was made in the search for remains in an old disappearance.
It is the podcast “Cold Cases” that drew attention to the unsolved case in which a man disappeared without a trace in 1972. The police suspected that he had been murdered, but the case is now time-barred and is only counted as a disappearance.
The podcast’s creators, Urban Gärdek and Tobias von Braun, received permission to dig at the site after a skeleton dog was spotted there last summer. On Monday, the excavation began and a piece of bone, which is believed to come from a forearm, was found.
– We have been in contact with an osteologist who looked at the images and it is 100 percent confirmed that it is a human skeleton, says Urban Gärdek to TV4 Nyheterna.
Police were called and excavations have been paused pending investigation and analysis.
Whether the piece of bone comes from the man or is an older skeleton has not yet been determined.
